    About Bachelor Occupational Therapy (BOT)

    Bachelor of Physiotherapy or BPT is a 4-year undergraduate program which deals with the science of physical movement and channelising it to prevent disability and diseases of movement.. The course also highlights the importance of six months of mandatory clinical internship.  Physiotherapy or physical therapy is an allied health profession that helps people increase, maintain or restore their physical mobility, function, and strength. This science makes use of electrotherapy, evidence-based kinesiology, exercise prescription and shockwave mobility to treat chronic conditions of the bones and soft tissues.

     

    Bachelor of Occupational Therapy (BOT) is a 4-5 year long undergraduate course designed to produce efficient Occupational Therapists that can help the physically or mentally challenged people enjoy their life without any hindrance. Occupational Therapy is the branch of science that deals with curing and rehabilitating the physically, emotionally and mentally disabled and challenged people. It focuses on adapting the environment according to the patient, and teaching and educating them in the necessary skills needed in performing daily activities.

    BPT Eligibility Criteria

    • Students who have completed their 10 +2 education with science as their major subject are eligible to apply for a Bachelor of Physiotherapy course.
    • The candidate should have pursued the Science stream with Physics, Chemistry, and Biology as their main subjects.
    • A Minimum aggregate score of 60% or equivalent at 10+2 level is mandatory for admission.
    • BPT Admission is generally done on the basis of entrance examinations conducted at national and state level

This was also known as ‘Moral Treatment’ in the past. The rise of occupational therapy happened around 100 BC, with a Greek physician by the name ‘Asclepiads. Since the onset of the 18th and 19th century, Occupational Therapy has been widely used in a number of countries as a measure of assessing and treating the mentally challenged. The 20th century experts formally named it as ‘Occupational Therapy’.

    Bachelors of Occupational Therapy, also known as BOT, is a bachelor’s degree programme in the field of medicine. The course has been structured to focus on practices of prevention and cure along with rehabilitation. It teaches the students to tackle the physical, emotional as well as mental problems of students and provide a universal cure for the problem or disease. In these programmes, students learn about means to cure patients by modifying the environment of the patient, educating them, and teaching them how to lead a regular life. Occupational Therapy also focuses on ergo-medicine to promote alternative medicine methods.     BOT trains students to become skilled professional occupational therapists, capable of undertaking independent/supervised practice.     • There are around 25 institutes in India that offer the course. In India, this program is recognized by the All India Occupational Therapists Association (AIOTA) and the World Federation of Occupational Therapy (WFOT).
    • Upon successful completion of the course, graduates apply for the National Certification Examination to get the license to practice Occupational Therapy officially.
